Kansas State Wildcats football has added a new commitment to their 2027 class with Laron Baker Jr., a speedy wide receiver from East St. Louis.

What happened?

Baker announced his commitment on social media on Tuesday, June 23, choosing the Wildcats over Arizona State, Illinois, and Cincinnati.

He's rated as a three-star prospect and a top 100 receiver in the 2027 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Why it matters for Kansas State Wildcats

Baker's speed and upside make him a great addition to the team, with a 4.3-second 40-yard dash and the ability to run every route.

His high school wide receivers coach, who has sent players to the NFL and works with Chicago Bears receiver Luther Burden, praises Baker's skills.

What comes next?

The Wildcats are gearing up for their next game against the Nicholls Colonels on September 5, 2026.

Baker is the 25th commitment to K-State's 2026 class and the second to the 2027 class, joining Jack Clayborne, an OL from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

The Kansas State 2027 team recruiting ranking currently stands at 27 in the country, behind only Texas Tech in the Big 12.

Wyatt D. Wheeler, who covers Kansas State athletics for the USA TODAY Network and Topeka Capital-Journal, reported on Baker's commitment.

Baker's stats include 10 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns during the 2025 season.

The Wildcats are looking to strengthen their recruiting efforts with the addition of Baker and other top prospects.
